The Harry Ransom Humanities Research Center in Austin, Texas, features “On the Road With the Beats” through Aug. 3 at the Ransom Center Galleries at the University of Texas. The exhibit will include Jack Kerouac’s scroll manuscript of “On the Road,” on loan from the collection of Jim Irsay, from Friday through May 31, and also offers more than 250 items that take visitors on a journey through the cities, landscapes and communities that fostered and shaped the works of the Beat Generation from the early 1940s to the mid-1960s. The Ransom Center Galleries are open 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday-Friday, noon-5 p.m. Saturday-Sunday, with extended hours to 7 p.m. Thursday. Admission is free. Run the river in Reno

The fifth annual Reno River Festival will be held May 9-11 at Truckee River Whitewater Park in Reno, Nev. One of the largest kayaking events in the United States, the event draws more than 40,000 kayak fans as well as participants in the “Street Rapids” mountain bike speed trials. The 12th annual Nantucket Wine Festival brings more than 150 wineries from across the globe to Massachusetts for tastings and dinners May 14-18 at the White Elephant Hotel. This year highlights will include a tribute to Stag’s Leap and a presentation to the first recipient of the Nantucket Wine Luminary of the Year award.
