ATLANTA – Avalanche star Peter Forsberg will miss his second consecutive game tonight, against Atlanta, with a groin injury.

“He said his groin was still bothering him,” Avs coach Joel Quenneville said this morning. “It’s a day-to-day thing right now. The fact that he was on the ice today gives you a good idea of what he could do.”

Forsberg did skate with the team at Philips Arena, but informed the coaches he wasn’t up to a return. He was not available for comment afterward.

In other Avs medical news, defenseman Ruslan Salei might return to the lineup Thursday night at the Pepsi Center. X-rays on his orbital bone came back negative, a big relief to the team. He was hurt in a fight Sunday night with Dallas forward Steve Ott.

Defenseman Jordan Leopold will miss tonight’s game, with possible concussion symptoms. He will be further examined when the team returns to Denver, but his condition is improving, the team said.

Defenseman Adam Foote will likely play tonight, after missing two games with a hip injury.

“It’s feeling pretty good,” Foote said.
