GOLDEN — With two new judges arriving July 1, Jefferson County officials said Tuesday they can carve out a courtroom for them in the “Taj Mahal.”

Negotiations also are nearly complete between Jefferson County and the county building’s original architect, Fentress Architects, to create a master plan with options for court growth. That work is expected to cost about $250,000.

The county building is one courtroom shy of accommodating the current 28 judges and magistrates. By 2015, the Colorado Judicial Branch estimates there will be 36 judges and magistrates.

Also Tuesday, the commissioners approved spending up to $460,000 to remodel the civil/warrants area on the second floor of the courts side of the Jefferson County Administration and Courts Facility.
