FORT COLLINS, Colo.—Nick Gill scored 14 points and Faith Christian rode a 20-0 start to a 52-34 victory over Aspen in the semifinals of the Class 3A boys state basketball tournament Friday night.
Jobi Wall and Tim Yeager added nine points each for Faith Christian (24-1). The Eagles shot 52 percent from the field.
Corey Parker had 10 points for Aspen (23-3). The Drake-bound Parker was limited to 3-of-11 shooting and well below his 20.7 per game scoring average.
Gill and Wall had seven points each as Faith Christian opened the game with a 20-0 run. Aspen didn’t score until Parker hit two free throws with 17 seconds left in the first quarter. The Skiers didn’t have a field goal until Parker’s 3-pointer a minute into the second quarter to make the score 26-5.
Gill scored five points in the last 4:23 as Faith Christian took a 33-14 lead into halftime.
The teams were more deliberate in the third quarter. Gill had four points and Faith Christian took a 43-23 lead into the fourth quarter. Josh Gartner’s two free throws got Aspen within 48-32 with 1:34 to play, but Josh McBeth sealed the game with a layup with 1:18 left.
Faith Christian will play the winner of the Eaton-Colorado Springs game for the state championship.
