With the Pepsi Center filling up with college basketball fans, the NCAA Tournament officially tipped off in Denver this morning. Michigan State and Temple met at center court.
More than an hour before the 10:30 a.m. tipoff, fans from Michigan State and Temple had claimed their sections. Meanwhile, fans from many schools not at the Denver site but part of the 64-team NCAA Tournament field donned the team colors.
The event has been sold out for months, and fans from the eight schools playing today dotted the arena for the first session of games. Next in the morning session is fourth-seeded Pittsburgh against No. 13 seed Oral Roberts.
The evening games, which begin at 5:20 p.m., will have few empty seats as fans head to downtown for the soldout event. Tonight’s games start with Washington State against Winthrop, followed by Notre Dame playing George Mason in the second game.
