A Colorado Springs woman was shot dead in her front yard on Flintridge Square Wednesday afternoon, with two young children inside.
Police identified the woman as 34-year-old Colleen Dwyer. The man, who was also found dead in the front yard, was identified this morning as Russell Dwyer, 39. A pistol was found near his body.
Colleen Dwyer’s death was ruled a homicide, while her estranged husband’s is being classified as a suicide.
Colleen and Russell Dwyer were married but not living together, police said. Russell Dwyer was living at the Flintridge address.
In August, an El Paso County court issued a temporary restraining order against Russell Dwyer based on a domestic abuse complaint filed against him by Colleen Dwyer, according to court records. The temporary restraining order was vacated in September.
The children, an 18-month-old girl and a 4-year-old boy, are now with their grandparents.
Police were first called on a report from someone who heard shots being fired at the home.
The El Paso County Coroner’s Office will conduct autopsies.
