The arraignment on insurance-fraud charges for the Rev. Acen Phillips was postponed this afternoon until April 3.
Phillips had been expected to enter a plea in Arapahoe County District Court.
The pastor is accused of stealing or attempting to steal $575,000 in phony life-insurance claims to AIG Life Insurance Co.
The Colorado attorney general’s office is handling the case. Nate Strauch, a spokesman for prosecutors, did not know the reason for the delay. Such court delays, especially in high-profile cases, are common, however.
The Phillips case has seen numerous postponements so far.
Prosecutors contend Phillips forged signatures of at least five members of his congregations at Mount Gilead Baptist and New Birth churches, where he has been a pastor. Some of signatures belong to people who had already passed away.
Documents were backdated to make Phillips’ churches and related charities the beneficiaries, according to the case against him.
