ST. PAUL, Minn. — Colorado College goalie “King” Richard Bachman on Thursday became the second player in 56 years of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association to be named player of the year as a freshman.

Bachman, who grew up in Highlands Ranch and honed his skills in the Littleton Hockey Association, also was named to the all-WCHA first team and all-rookie team.

Curtis Joseph, the longtime NHL goalie from the University of Wisconsin (1988-89), is the only other WCHA player to sweep those awards.

“It’s a real honor to be on the same list as him,” Bachman said of Joseph during the awards banquet that kicked off the WCHA Final Five at the Xcel Energy Center. “He’s an amazing goalie. That’s a lot to live up to.”
