ALAMOSA, Colo.—Adams State College students have overwhelmingly approved a fee increase to help pay for new buildings and campus improvements in the next decade.

The measure, which passed 475-128 this week, will implement a $10 fee per on-campus credit hour next year. The fee will rise 7 percent annually for the next nine years, raising a total of $35 million for campus improvements and scholarships.

The school is hoping to build a new residence hall. It also hopes to renovate current housing, the music building, and the education and social sciences building.

“We do hope it will help us with recruitment,” said Ken Marquez, the school’s dean of student affairs.

Tanya Martin, a student representative on the school’s board of trustees, said students were most concerned about getting facilities upgraded as soon as possible. Martin said that when she lived on campus as an underclassman, her buildings had outdated bathrooms and faulty plumbing.
