The statue at the Denver West Shopping Center is about a half- mile from where I grew up. It was a farming community at the base of South Table MountainTabletop, as we called it. Bands of horses used to roam on Tabletop. There was a shooting range up there, as well. Just over the plateau lies the Coors Brewing Co. On hot summer nights, you could smell the malt for miles around. The site used to be open fields where horses were pastured. My sister and I used to ride horses where the Denver West office complexes now stand.
