WELLINGTON, Colo.—Poudre Fire Authority officials say it appears a spark from recreational use of a gun started a grass fire in a field near Wellington.
The fire Saturday was originally reported at 100 acres, but firefighters revised that to 38 acres.
It happened in Weld County, about 70 miles north of Denver. About 25 firefighters responded to the scene.
Flames came within a few feet of a house and outbuilding, but crews contained the blaze before anything was lost.
On Friday crews in Elbert County contained a wildfire after it burned about 500 acres northeast of Kiowa. No structures were lost, but the fire did get within about 10 feet of a home.
