A worker at an oil rig site in Weld County died of injuries suffered in an accident, authorities said.

The accident happened at about 8 a.m. Thursday but the Weld County Sheriff’s Office wasn’t notified until after 4 p.m., said Undersheriff Margie Martinez.

The Weld County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Christopher Clark, 26, of Platteville.

Clark worked as a laborer for Patterson-UTI Energy and the rig site is owned by Anadarko Petroleum, Martinez said. The rig is outside of Platteville near county roads 31 and 28, Martinez said.

Clark was taken to the North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley where he died at 12:10 p.m., the coroner’s office said.

An autopsy to determine the cause of death is being preformed this morning. Details on the accident, which is being investigated by Occupational Safety and Health Administration, were not available.
