CHICOUTIMI, Quebec—The Quebec Remparts and Chicoutimi Sagueneens took the ice separately for pregame warmups Friday night because of a brawl earlier in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League playoff series involving the son of Hall of Fame goalie Patrick Roy.
QMJHL commissioner Gilles Courteau announced earlier Friday that the teams would have separate warmup sessions for the remainder of the series, which Quebec led 3-1.
The decision was made in response to last Saturday’s brawl in which Roy’s son Jonathan, also a goalie, repeatedly pounded an opponent during Game 2 of the series.
Both coaches and several players were suspended for their roles in the melee. Patrick Roy, the Remparts coach, general manager and part-owner and a former member of the Colorado Avalanche, received a five-game suspension. His son was handed a seven-game ban.
