DENVER—State lawmakers have picked Molly Brown and Emily Griffith to represent Colorado in the National Women’s History Museum that backers are trying to establish in Washington, D.C.

Members of the House and Senate approved a resolution supporting the museum on Friday. Others on the list of the candidates included singer Judy Collins, Chipeta, an American Indian negotiator and wife of Chief Ouray, and Mamie Eisenhower.

Brown survived the 1912 sinking of the Titanic and was active in supporting women’s suffrage. Griffith founded a school that now bears her name in Denver to teach adults English and job skills.

Sen. Nancy Spence, the only GOP woman in the Senate, co-sponsored the resolution with Sen. Suzanne Williams, a Democrat from Aurora.
