GENTLY

Baby your seedlings, save space

OXO, the maker of ergonomically correct kitchen gadgets, has a new mini-version of its Pour & Store watering can that makes a cinch of giving your garden seedlings a gentle drink. The 1-quart can has a nonstick handle and a spout that rotates for easy storage. Aside from the fact that it comes in a half-dozen cute colors, the best part is a removable shower-style head. Pull it off the spout to make a precision pour. Leave it in place to deliver a slow spray of water that won’t disrupt the tiny roots of your tender veggie starts. About $10. Dana Coffield

BUILD IT

Construction projects, sans traffic jams

What kid hasn’t sprawled out on the back lawn and dreamed of a treehouse or a fort or a hut? Homebuilder David Stiles and his co-conspirator, Jeanie Stiles, lay out the how-to of backyard building for semi-handy adults and kids in their new book, “Treehouses and Other Cool Stuff: 50 Projects You Can Build” (Gibbs Smith, $19.95). Each project includes a measured drawing, materials list and easy-to follow directions. Now, while we’re not sure most kids could build an A-frame treehouse without help from the folks, there are plenty of other easier projects — A nature hut! A birdhouse! A box sled! Bike decorations! — that can get done without too much supervision. Dana Coffield
