LONDON — Britain’s aviation minister called ongoing flight cancellations and baggage problems at Heathrow Airport’s new Terminal 5 a blow to national pride.
Jim Fitzpatrick told lawmakers Monday it could be a week before a backlog of suitcases and bags is returned to their owners following glitches in the London terminal’s high- tech baggage-handling system.
British Airways canceled 54 additional short-haul flights at the terminal Monday.
Almost 300 flights have been scrapped and 28,000 bags have been separated from their owners since the terminal opened last week.
