LAS VEGAS — Federal Communications Commission Chairman Kevin Martin said he will urge the agency to reject a petition by EBay’s Skype unit that would force mobile-phone carriers to open their networks to more devices and programs.
It’s too soon to adopt government requirements, especially as companies try to open up their networks voluntarily, Martin said Tuesday at the CTIA conference.
Skype, which offers free Web phone service, filed the petition in February 2007.
