Winter Park Resort is having a “Spring Blast Throwback to the ’80s” celebration April 12-13. The second annual “Dress Your Dog Hot” contest for pet dogs and old-school ’80s adult costume contest both start at 1 p.m. April 12 in the plaza. Also at 1 p.m., Winter Park Resort Ski and Ride School is giving away free bump and telemark tips starting from the top of the Prospector chairlift. The Coca-Cola 40th annual Spring Splash begins at noon April 13 with skiers and riders struggling through obstacles on the Larry Sale racecourse in an attempt to skim across an icy pond to reach the finish line and post a time. Kansas Birding Festival
The Kansas Birding Festival will be in Wakefield, next to Milford Reservoir, April 25-27. The three-day festival features guided field trips throughout the region and educational seminars in Wakefield. The evening banquet April 26 features keynote speaker Dave Rintoul, an ornithologist, wildlife photographer and professor of biology at Kansas State University. Other guides and special speakers include Chuck Otte, editor of the Kansas Ornithological Society newsletter and Pat Silvosky, director of the Milford Nature Center. Registration will be $90 if received before April 10, $100 after that date. Registration includes the April 25 reception, two breakfast meals, the April 26 banquet, field trips and seminars.
