Carrie McCandless, a high school teacher who did 45 days in jail for fondling a student, is back behind bars after violating probation.

McCandless, 32, had to register as a sex offender after her conviction last June. She is subject to intensive supervision and is required to get permission from a treatment team consisting of a mental health provider and a parole officer before having sexual contact with anyone but her husband.

On March 6, she got in bed with a man without seeking approval.

“Ms. McCandless was found by Parole Officer Joel Campbell in bed at the apartment of one of his parolees,” according to a Larimer County Court document modifying her sentence to include the latest 30 day stint.

The parolee was an adult, said Paul Cooper, chief probation officer for the Eighth Judicial District.

“It is about healthy sexual relationships. These things have to be known to the treatment provider and they have to consider it a good thing for the person to be involved in,” Cooper said.

McCandless also violated probation by testing positive for alcohol, violating a court-mandated curfew and missing random blood alcohol tests.

McCandless was a Brighton Charter High School teacher when she kissed and fondled a 17 year-old student during a field trip in late October 2006. The two also drank together during the trip.

McCandless served 45 days in jail following her conviction last June.

She turned herself in at the Larimer County Detention Center to begin serving the latest sentence last Friday, said Larimer County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Eloise Campanella.
