The goal was lofty.
“From the beginning of the year, we wanted to go undefeated,” Simla coach Al Snyder said.
The Cubs showed they had the goods, including Snyder’s daughter, RaeLynn, who led the team in running the table in the regular season (22-0) behind her 14-point and eight-rebound averages.
Simla lost in the semifinals — to eventual champion Wray — but a third-place finish helped define its character. RaeLynn scored a game-high 17 points in that game.
“It took a lot of senior leadership to come back and beat Rocky Ford,” coach Snyder said. “There is no doubt we would not have gotten that far without her.”
RaeLynn has signed to play volleyball at Northern Colorado. Her mother, Sue, coaches Simla and has been one of the state’s most successful and longest-tenured coaches.
