The South Platte and Pikes Peak ranger districts of the Pike National Forest have announced temporary closures of certain roads and trails related to wet and muddy conditions.

The list includes those in the Rampart Range Motorized Recreation Area beginning at the north end of Rampart Range Road 300 near the Indian Creek campground, south to the junction of Fern Creek Road 351. Closures don’t apply to the 35-mile portion of Rampart Range Road south to Colorado Springs.

Additional closures involve Long Hollow Road 348 north of the intersection with Fern Creek Road 351 and three motorized trails north of Fern Creek Road. Signs have been posted describing restrictions.

New TU show.

Noted Telluride guide and angler Frank Smethurst will host a new Trout Unlimited-sponsored fly-fishing show, “On the Rise,” to be shown weekly on The Outdoor Channel. The show made its debut Friday, but will be repeated at 5:30 a.m. Sunday. Regular showings are 6 p.m. Friday, noon Saturday and Sunday.

Traveling in a trout-patterned Airstream trailer, the Scott Fly Rods representative toured some of the finest locations across the country.

U.S. team eighth.

Fly Fishing Team USA placed eighth in the recently concluded World Fly Fishing Championship in New Zealand, two places lower than in 2007.

Josh Stephens of Robbinsville, N.C., recorded the top U.S. result, 20th place. Lance Egan of Lehi, Utah, finished 24th; team captain Anthony Naranja of Grand Junction 34th; George Daniel of Lock Haven, Pa., 38th; and Bret Bishop of Boise, Idaho, 51st.
