Breakfast cereal and espresso beans are worth a second look after the national recall today of three products sold in Colorado.

Potential salmonella contamination caused the recall of Malt-O-Meal Unsweetened Puffed Rice and Unsweetened Puffed Wheat cereal.

The unlisted ingredients of milk and soy prompted the recall of Harry & David Chocolate Covered Select Blend Espresso Beans.

The recalled cereals have “best if used by” dates from April 8, 2008, to March 18, 2009. They were sold at Albertsons and King Soopers stores in Colorado.

Malt-O-Meal cereals are sold under several private brands: Acme, America’s Choice, Food Club, Giant, Hannaford, Jewel, Laura Lynn, Pathmark, Shaw’s, ShopRite, Tops and Weis Quality.

The recalled espresso beans came in 8-ounce plastic bags and have “best if used by” dates after Aug. 28, 2005. They would have been sold before last Saturday. The bags do not have a “contains milk, soy” statement on the nutrition label.

People allergic to milk or soy could have a life-threatening reaction.

Six Harry & David stores located in Colorado may have carried the recalled beans. The stores are located at Arapahoe Crossing Shopping Center in Aurora, FlatIron Crossing in Broomfield, Prime Outlets in Castle Rock, Colorado Mills mall in Lakewood, Prime Outlets in Loveland and Prime Outlets in Silverthorne.

Recalled products can be returned to the stores for a refund. For more information about the cereal recall, call 1-877-665-9331. For the espresso-bean recall, call 1-800-233-1101.
