One is no longer his lonely number. Six days after making his major-league debut, Jayson Nix recorded his second career hit Monday night.
Nix, who has been strong defensively, was in a 1-for-14 funk before singling sharply to left field in the seventh inning off Braves reliever Peter Moylan. “Hitting is all about feel and I haven’t had that good feeling in a while,” Nix said.
Manager Clint Hurdle said before the game that he’s not concerned about the rookie’s slow start.
To catch a thief.
Through seven games, opponents have attempted just two stolen bases against Yorvit Torrealba. He threw out St. Louis’ Chris Duncan. The Braves didn’t try Monday. “My arm feels a lot better than last year,” Torrealba said.
Matt back:
Matt Herges returned from illness and pitched a scoreless eighth inning. The Rockies will use a committee in the late innings before Brian Fuentes and Manny Corpas because of the injury to Luis Vizcaino.
