One person died this morning when a semi-tractor trailer truck carrying mail for the U.S. Postal Service jackknifed on U.S. Highway 287 northwest of Fort Collins.

The accident happened at about 5:30 a.m. in the Virginia Dale area, said Trooper Gilbert Mares, a Colorado State Patrol spokesman.

The person who suffered fatal injuries was not identified and the accident is under investigation.

The highway, which connects Fort Collins and Laramie, Wyo., was partially blocked by the accident, Mares said.
