A new report issued by the Space Foundation during the 24th National Space Symposium concluded the global space industry earned at least $251 billion in revenue in 2007, up 11 percent from the previous year. That includes government and civilian applications from Global Positioning System devices to space-shuttle platforms.

According to the report, the average space-industry wage in Colorado in 2006 was $102,146, compared with an average statewide private-sector wage of $43,664.

Also, Elliot Pulham, president of the Space Foundation, said during the conference that total space revenue for Colorado is $10 billion a year.

Foundation’s new website

The Colorado Space Coalition on Tuesday launched its new website, . The site includes a video on Colorado’s 60-year history in aerospace, articles and RSS feeds on industry news and company contracts, and a database of more than 300 aerospace companies and suppliers in the state.

Orion’s weight a challenge

In a media briefing on Orion/Constellation, Richard Gilbrech, NASA exploration-systems associate administrator, said the biggest design challenge for the Orion crew exploration vehicle is keeping the weight down.

“That’s always the hardest thing, to meet the targets on the weight,” Gilbrech said.

Lockheed Martin employees in Jefferson County are developing Orion.
