LYONS, Colo.—Lyons Elementary School students have begun returning to school after a nearly one-hour evacuation because of a gas leak nearby.

School officials say the leak was reported at about 9 a.m. Tuesday by a parent who was visiting the campus.

About 265 elementary students were taken to the Lyons Middle-Senior High School while crews repaired a leak in a gas meter.

St. Vrain Valley School District spokesman John Poynton says the leak was near the school but not on the campus.

Lyons is about 35 miles northwest of Denver.
