DENVER—The trial for a government official accused of using restricted criminal information for a campaign ad has wrapped up and jurors are preparing for deliberations.
Cory Voorhis is an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent facing federal charges of exceeding authorized access to government computers. Prosecutors allege Voorhis obtained information from a database about plea deals Gov. Bill Ritter made with illegal immigrants when he was district attorney.
Prosecutors say the Beauprez campaign later ran an attack ad against Ritter with the information. Voorhis faces up to three years in prison if convicted.
Voorhis’ attorneys say he was exercising his First Amendment right.
Jurors were getting their instructions Tuesday before beginning deliberations.
