Media professionals and New York residents will have a chance to experience what Colorado has to offer, including skiing, battling white-water rapids and enjoying Colorado musical talent, all without getting on a plane or driving thousands of miles.

The Colorado Tourism Office is bringing the slopes, the rivers and the culture of Colorado to New York’s 6.2-acre Madison Square Park today.

The tourism office and 30 tourism partners from across the state are hosting the first “Let’s Talk the Many Seasons of Colorado,” a marketing and public-relations event open to media and residents.

The $200,0000 event is specifically focused on media personalities in New York who may then write or report on Colorado tourism, tourism office director Kim McNulty said.

“We’re moving mountains to make this happen — literally,” she said. “In today’s crowded marketplace, there is a need to complement our aggressive marketing plan with nontraditional, experiential tactics that will get the attention of both the media and consumers and position our key messages in a high-profile way.”

Visitors to the park will find ski simulators, a white-water rapids interactive kayak simulator, Colorado wildlife and performances by the Vail International Dance Festival and Denver musicians. They also can get tips from pro golfers from Colorado Springs and climb on an REI rock wall.

The event is co-sponsored by the Denver Metro Convention & Visitors Bureau, Denver International Airport and REI.
