DENVER—The mayors of Denver and Saint Paul are betting some green on the NHL playoff series between the Colorado Avalanche and Minnesota Wild.
Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper and Saint Paul Mayor Chris Coleman are making a “green” bet that’s eco-friendly.
If Colorado defeats Minnesota, Hickenlooper will put on a Wild jersey and plant a Northwoods red maple in front of the Pepsi Center, home of the Avalanche, before the Democratic National Convention is held there in August.
If Minnesota wins, Coleman will put on an Avalanche jersey and plant a Colorado blue spruce in front of the Xcel Energy Center before the Republican National Convention in September.
The Avalanche lead the best-of-seven series 1-0.
