DENVER—American Airlines canceled six arrivals and six departures at Denver International Airport on Friday as it pulled MD-80 jets from service to inspect wiring.

American canceled 595 flights nationwide, bringing the week’s total to nearly 3,100.

The Fort Worth-based airline said it expected to operate about half of its scheduled MD-80 flights through much of the day.

All the canceled Denver flights were between DIA and Dallas-Fort Worth or Chicago. Since Wednesday, the company has canceled at least 35 flights at DIA.

Mark Niederhauser’s flight from Denver to Dallas appeared to be on time on Friday.

“The person that I spoke to on the phone this morning couldn’t have been nicer,” said Niederhauser, 54, who was going to visit friends and family and watch a Bruce Springsteen concert.

“Last night was totally different,” he said, when the agent he spoke to was stressed out and in a bad mood.

Eric Skarda, 26, was flying on American’s regional carrier, American Eagle, from Denver to Kansas City en route to North Carolina.

“As far as I know, everything is on time, so far,” he said.

He said American told him his American Eagle flight was not on an MD-80.
