Denver Public Schools next school year must find jobs for 140 teachers who are classified as “direct placements,” meaning they have not been able to find voluntary placement in the district.

The DPS labor agreement says all non-probationary teachers, or those who have been with the district for more than three years, must be placed in positions — even if it is involuntary.

The number was announced Monday at a board meeting by Tom Boasberg, the district’s operating officer.

Last year, 250 teachers were involuntarily placed in jobs. Boasberg said the number declined because of recent negotiated hiring and staffing changes.
