Getting your player ready...

South Platte River lovers can get a jump on Earth Day 2008 at the second annual South Platte River Clean Up on Sunday beginning at 10 a.m.

More than 120 volunteers came out for last year’s cleanup, floating, cycling and walking along several miles of river corridor through Denver to remove more than 2 tons of trash and other debris from the river and its shores. Organizers, including event sponsors from Down River Equipment, Confluence Kayaks and Keen are hoping to top that number this time through incentives like a free barbecue at Confluence Park along with a prize raffle after the work is done.

The 6-mile tract runs north from Grant- Frontier Park (West Evans Avenue and South Platte River Drive), with a complimentary shuttle service provided for boaters to and from the City of Cuernavaca Park downtown, where there is ample parking (even for trailers). All necessary supplies will be provided, so volunteers only need to bring a boat or other means of transport down the river way, and a willingness to roll up their sleeves and get dirty.

Help out: For more information, contact Confluence Kayaks at 303-433-3676.
