Two Denver police officers and a school security guard were assaulted this afternoon trying to break up a fight in the parking lot of George Washington High School.
Police arrested seven juveniles and an adult in the wake of the altercation that occurred after school had let out, according to Denver police spokesman Sonny Jackson.
The security guard at the school went into the north parking lot at about 3:30 p.m. to break up a fight and was attacked, Jackson said.
“He went out to do his job,” Jackson said.
The guard radioed for help, and Denver police officers responded, Jackson said.
The first two officers were attacked, and one sustained minor injuries, Jackson said. More police officers responded to the scene, and the situation was “brought under control.”
“The individuals who were arrested are facing a myriad of charges, including assaulting a peace officer,” he said. “We don’t know what started the fight. They’re working all of that out.”
Some of the combatants also sustained minor injuries, Jackson said.
