A 33-year-old Thornton man died Saturday morning after losing control of a homemade motorcycle he was driving northbound on Interstate 25 near the Dacono exit, the State Patrol reported.

The motorcycle ran off the left side of the road into the depressed median, ejecting the driver into a cable barrier, according to State Patrol investigators.

The motorcyclist, who was riding alone, was pronounced dead at the scene. His name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation. The man was not wearing a helmet and alcohol or drugs are not suspected. The homemade motorcycle, built in 1999, did have a Colorado registration.
