GOLDEN , Colo.—The State Patrol is investigating what caused a U.S. postal truck to veer out of control and hit a bicyclist, who died at the scene.

Authorities have identified the bicyclist as 53-year-old Shahram Moghadamnia of Lakewood.

State Patrol investigators say 39-year-old Maria Dawson of Lakewood was driving the mail truck Saturday near Golden when the truck started veering counter clockwise, corrected and then spun clockwise. The State Patrol says the truck drove into the other lane and struck the bicyclist.

The truck then rolled over and slid on its side before stopping.

Dawson wasn’t injured.

Authorities say they don’t believe alcohol or drugs was a factor.
