Thunderstorms could rumble through Denver this afternoon and rain and snow showers will be possible in some parts of the high country today.

Partly cloudy skies over Denver will bring possible isolated showers and thunderstorms to the area this afternoon, the National Weather Service reports. The high temperature in the city should be about 70 degrees with winds out of the southeast gusting up to 20 mph.

A cold front over northwestern Colorado will bring scattered showers and snow flurries to the mountains today as it moves east, the weather service said. A second cold front is expected to follow and push south. bringing winds and some wet weather to Durango and Pagosa Springs by this evening.

Through tonight, up to 6 inches of snow is possible for the Elk Mountains, the Flat Tops and Park Range, with little accumulation expected elsewhere in the mountains.

The high temperature in Vail is expected to reach 48 degrees today and winds could gust to 30 mph, the weather service forecasts.

Tonight in Denver the low temperature will hit about 35 degrees and there’s a 10 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before midnight.

Tomorrow in Denver skies should be sunny and the high temperature should be about 62 degrees, the weather service said.
