BRIDGEPORT, Neb.—The Morrill County sheriff says a tornado has destroyed a rural house south of Bridgeport.

No one was home during the Wednesday night storm.

Sheriff John Edens says the damage from the early evening tornado was “pretty catastrophic.”

The house was about nine miles southeast of Bridgeport and surrounded by fields.

There were several reports of tornadoes near Bridgeport as a spring storm brought hail and strong winds to the Panhandle.

Edens also says there was golf ball- to baseball-sized hail, smashed windows and downed power lines in Bridgeport.

The National Weather Service office in Cheyenne, Wyoming, says a tornado was seen six miles south of Bridgeport about 6 p.m. Wednesday.
