The speed limit on Interstate 25 between Belleview Avenue and Broadway will be raised today, now that the road has been improved as part of the recently completed T-REX project.
Currently, the speed limit is 55 mph. Between Belleview and Yale avenues, the new limit will be 65 mph. From Yale to Broadway, it will be 60 mph.
The road improvements cause some motorists to bust the speed limit, while others stick to 55 mph. The widespread variance in speed can lead to aggressive driving and accidents, said Stacey Stegman, spokeswoman for the Colorado Department of Transportation.
The new speed limit will be strictly enforced, officials said. CDOT has given Denver police $100,000 to increase enforcement on the road, Stegman said. “There is a need to assure people they shouldn’t take advantage” of the increased limit, she said.
