WESTMINSTER, Colo.—One person is dead and another is hospitalized after a semi-truck hit two people that stepped out of their vehicle on a busy U.S. highway.
Westminster police say the accident happened about midnight this morning after the victims were involved in a single-vehicle crash on U.S. 36, commonly known as the Boulder Turnpike.
Police say two men in their 20s then stepped outside of the 2004 Chrysler 4-door to check for damage when a semi struck them on the side of the road.
One man died at the scene. The other was taken to a Denver hospital with unknown injuries.
No names have been released.
Portions of eastbound and westbound U.S. 36 were closed for several hours, but reopened about 6 a.m.
