Getting your player ready...
Before assisting on Ian Laperriere’s goal that trimmed Detroit’s lead to 4-1, Cody McCormick picked a fight with longtime Avalanche nemesis Darren McCarty. The quick brawl ended with McCormick taking McCarty to the ice.
The way to redirect.
Johan Franzen’s redirect goal to make it 1-0 was a beauty. In front of the crease, Franzen got just the right amount of stick on a slap shot from the point, and the puck slid into the net just inside the post.
Penalty kill not all bad.
The Avs’ penalty-killing unit was better on a 5-on-3 than when one man short. Detroit produced two 5-on-4 power-play goals, but failed to score on a 5-on-3 for 1:28.
