The San Jose Stealth scored five goals on its first six shots and held off a Colorado Mammoth rally to win the National Lacrosse League West Division title after an 11-6 victory at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif., on Saturday.
The Stealth (9-7) won the season series 2-1 over the Mammoth (9-7).
Colorado, which earned the No. 2 seed for the NLL playoffs, will host Calgary in a division semifinal game scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday at the Pepsi Center. San Jose will play Portland in the other division semifinal.
The Mammoth rallied from a 5-0 deficit to trail San Jose 6-4 at halftime and 7-6 after the third quarter.
But the Stealth got late goals from Colin Doyle, Cam Sedgwick, Gary Rosyski and Jeff Zywicki to pull away.
Brian Langtry and Jamie Shewchuk led the Mammoth with four points apiece. They each tallied two goals and two assists.
Colorado’s Gavin Prout had two assists to finish the season with 67, most in the NLL and four short of the league record.
Zywicki led the Stealth with three goals, and Doyle had a game-high nine points on two goals and seven assists.
After San Jose’s early five-goal barrage, Mammoth goaltender Gee Nash was replaced in favor of Chris Levis, who went on to stop 27-of-33 shots.
