Getting your player ready...
Forward Peter Forsberg and defenseman Scott Hannan were scratched. Forsberg, who missed Game 1 with what the team called a groin injury, participated in the pregame warm-ups before deciding he wasn’t ready. Hannan, who took a slap shot off a foot in Game 1, was ruled to be unavailable because of a lower-body injury.
Early penalty costly.
Avs defenseman Jeff Finger, who was a healthy scratch in the previous four games, took a mysterious roughing penalty 2:42 into the game. Finger was singled out during a scrum after a whistle, and the Wings scored on the ensuing power play.
Too many chances.
Detroit had 22 shots in the second period, scoring three times to take a 4-0 lead.
