ENGLEWOOD, Colo.—The Arapahoe County district attorney’s office is warning consumers, after sensitive information from a mortgage company’s files were found in a trash receptacle.

The Cove Creek Mortgage Co. files included names, addresses, Social Security numbers and bank and investment account information.

The DA’s office says people who used the company should put a fraud alert on their credit reports.

The property owner of Cove Creek’s office told authorities Cove Creek’s owner abandoned the office in January and had not been in touch. Prosecutors say that on Saturday, the property manager dumped everything from the office in two trash receptacles.

Sheriff’s officials were working with Cove Creek’s owner to retrieve the files.
