The computer server and software maker swung to a loss in the fiscal third quarter, surprising investors and analysts who were expecting a healthy profit despite a weakening U.S. economy.
The Santa Clara, Calif. based company said Thursday it lost $34 million, or 4 cents per share, in the three months ended March 30, down from a profit of $67 million, or 7 cents per share, in the year-ago period.
Sun also said it planned to cut 1,500 to 2,500 jobs.
