BOULDER, Colo.—A University of Colorado freshman has been ticketed for setting off fireworks on campus after university police said they watched him in a video posted online.

Police say the video on YouTube showed 19-year-old Joseph Ramos setting off a Roman candle that hit the outside of a dormitory but did no damage.

Officers say they were tipped by a residence hall director, who had in turn been told by students about the video.

CU Police say it’s the first time they’ve issued a citation based on an online video.

Ramos had no listed phone number and didn’t immediately respond to an e-mail seeking comment.
