MINNEAPOLIS — Detroit placed right-hander Denny Bautista on the 15-day disabled list Saturday with right shoulder tendinitis.
Bautista left Friday night’s loss at Minnesota in the eighth inning after giving up three runs on four straight hits. He got ahead 0-2 on Mike Lamb, but then summoned team trainers to the mound. After a brief conversation, Bautista left the game and Francisco Cruceta was rushed into action.
Detroit purchased the contract of right-hander Freddy Dolsi from Double-A Erie to take Bautista’s place on the roster.
Cubs send Hill to minors.
The Chicago Cubs demoted left-hander Rich Hill to Triple-A Iowa, hours after he walked four batters and failed to survive the first inning in Saturday’s game against the St. Louis Cardinals.
Hampton mulls retirement.
Mike Hampton’s long procession of comeback attempts is taking an emotional toll that forced the former Rockies pitcher to at least briefly consider retirement.
Hampton left his rehab start for Atlanta’s Triple- A Richmond club on Wednesday after aggravating his injured left pectoral muscle. The disappointment made Hampton think about retiring.
“I’d be lying, lying to myself, if I said things like that don’t creep into your mind when you go through setback after setback,” Hampton said.
