Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper gets that the Democratic National Convention is an important confab for political insiders, but he also sees the August meeting as a chance for everyday folk to explore — through art and performance — what democracy means to them.
Monday morning, Hickenlooper unveiled the official lineup of 10 artists who will create works with the help of local groups as part of Dialog:City. The exhibition will be installed Aug. 21-29 in locations across Denver, with works ranging from South Korean architect Minsuk Cho’s levitating “Pavilion for Public Discourse” in City Park to “Karaoke Convention 2008” by Daniel Peltz, in which speeches made during the 2008 campaign will be transcribed into karaoke format and performed at bars, clubs and restaurants.
