After one relief appearance, Mark Redman will return to the Rockies’ rotation tonight, his spot hanging in the balance.
The Rockies haven’t soured on Redman, but need to see more if he’s going to avoid going to the bullpen. The Dodgers shelled Redman for 10 runs in the first inning of his last start. He made a successful cameo as a reliever, a role he briefly excelled in a year ago for the Rockies.
Redman is focusing on his execution.
“I need to be aggressive and attack the strike zone,” Redman said.
Concern for Wells.
Pitcher Kip Wells will undergo surgery today in St. Louis to remove a blood clot from his right hand, the second time in his career this problem has occurred.
Given the serious nature of the injury, the team is worried.
“I am very concerned,” manager Clint Hurdle said. “It’s not about getting well to pitch, it’s about Kip getting well.”
Walker back.
Former Rockies star Larry Walker returned to Coors Field, throwing batting practice for the Cardinals in his role as a part-time coach. Walker visited with Hurdle before the game and admittedly was happy for the Rockies’ success last fall.
“I know how they feel getting swept by Boston,” said Walker, broomed by the Red Sox in 2004 as a Cardinal. “It was great to see what happened here with the fans and team.”
