An explosion at a mobile home Wednesday night propelled the occupant so far that the Grand County Sheriff’s Department didn’t find him until Thursday afternoon.

The trailer exploded about 7:30 Wednesday night. The unidentified man’s body was found about 120 feet away, behind an unoccupied home, according to a statement from Undersheriff Walt Eldridge.

Investigators had not yet determined the cause of the explosion.

Three nearby trailers were also destroyed, and cars and trucks in the blast zone were scorched or demolished.

A search of the other destroyed mobile homes in the trailer park turned up no more casualties.

The body was found about 1:30 p.m. in the trailer park along U.S. 34 near Lake Granby.

The cause of the explosion is still under investigation.

Three local fire departments, the Colorado Bureau of Investigation and the Gilpin County Sheriff’s Office and its coroner’s office are involved in the investigation, Eldridge said.
