The attorney for Broncos player Marcus Thomas says drug possession charges against the defensive tackle have been dropped.

Attorney Charles Truncale says authorities in Clay County, Fla., decided not to file charges against Thomas, who was arrested in March after police said they found cocaine and a handgun in a pickup truck during a traffic stop.

Truncale says Thomas got a ride from friend Bryce Carter after going out drinking near his hometown of Jacksonville. Police arrested both men, and Thomas spent a night in jail. The Broncos later said Carter admitted the cocaine was his.

DU lacrosse downed by Terps.

Grant Catalino had a hat trick, including a key goal with a little more than four minutes gone in the fourth quarter that gave No. 7 Maryland a 9-5 lead, and the Terps went on to a 10-7 win over the No. 18 University of Denver men’s lacrosse team in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

DU started out well on the Terps’ home field in College Park, building a 5-2 lead early in the second period, with two of the goals by Ilija Gajic. Maryland (10-5) scored three straight to tie the game at the half.

Cowboys oust DU netters.

DU’s Niklas Persson, Kalle Rosen and David Simson won their singles matches, but No. 20 Oklahoma State (17-9) also won three singles matches and claimed the doubles point to beat the Pioneers 4-3 in the first round of the men’s NCAA Tournament in Tulsa, Okla.

DU finished at 18-7, a school record for wins. It was the Pioneers’ first NCAA appearance since going to Division I in 1998.

DU golfers advance to NCAA Championships.

The University of Denver women’s golf team finished 21 strokes behind winner UCLA but claimed third place in the NCAA Regional at the University of Texas Golf Club in Austin. The top eight teams advance to the NCAA Championships.

UCLA won the regional with a 3-under-par 861 total, 10 strokes better than second-place Purdue. DU was at 18-over 882.

CSU, Outlaws win at Invesco.

Colorado State won the women’s club lacrosse national championship, defeating Cal Poly 8-5 in overtime Saturday at Invesco Field at Mile High.
